The simple fact that folks here are really behaving like this is a meaningful gesture is indeed fucking baffling. EA literally went out of its way to scrub his title from their games two decades right, but this thread is making it look like they have donated millions. It's the Mut 21 coins definition of slacktivism. It'd be more honest if they had said nothing at all. I never mentioned"Let us attack a company for doing the right thing." My point, which I've tried to clarify in an edit, is that we should not PRAISE businesses for doing the bare minimum of human decency when they have shown in the past to be against what they're asserting. You can remain optimistic of matters looking up, which I often am. If your friend hurts your feelings, then they must regain your trust. You do not thank them every time from then on if they are being nice.
Wait, why not? If a buddy of mine hurt me and made an effort to be fine I would absolutely want to tell them I appreciate their efforts. Positive reinforcement is a great thing. It helps people behave better, who is to say it can't make a company behave better also? It's well worth rewarding them for it like it's worth rewarding a problem child for doing their best to get daily. The difference is you positively reinforce ACTION, not words. EA (and people generally ) should not support black individuals for any reason beyond the fact that it's the correct thing to do. Benefits come from good behaviour, you should not be on good behavior for those benefits. Once I visit EA contribute to the causes or implement initiatives to help out black developers or items of this sort, then I will praise them. We just should require a higher standard and quit permitting firms off the hook so easily. I'm of the mindset that cancel culture is mostly poor and people should be encouraged to alter and enhance. But we shouldn't let ourselves to be played by companies that are, at the close of the day, looking to remove all barriers in the means of getting our cash. I've been burnt by false promises a lot of times.
Benefits come from good behavior, you shouldn't be on good behaviour for the added benefits. "Everybody should only do the perfect thing" is a naive expectation. And I believe that is the case even for people too: if you need someone to behave in a moral way the best way to do that's to give them the right incentives and benefits to create acting morally the greatest and most attractive option for them. If you don't then your society will probably be intrinsically unstable. This is where I see this argument breaking . Corporations aren't people, they don't have any built-in moral instincts. Should they behave morally, it's because they benefit, there is no other motive. Either because there is pressure internally from their employees to act in ways consistent with the morals and beliefs of the employees, or outside pressure from consumers or authorities. Once I see EA donate to the causes or implement initiatives to help out black developers or items of this type, then I will praise them. We just should need a high standard and quit allowing companies off the hook easily. Not surprising when you're the only licensed football game in a quarantined year which has delayed this season. The fans are starved of their preferred sport. The season isn't delayed it is still starting punctually, next Thursday. I understand some folks get up for this since they are desperate for soccer, but it's just so dull and doesnt tell you anything. I have seen teams go winless and win the superbowl, along with other teams crush preseason and have awful years.
Dont understand why im downvoted either considering I actually work with the NFL broadcasting group and also have all the numbers at my desk. There also wasn't anything on your first remark that hinted that you had"inside" knowledge. I understand why you're being downvoted because some people literally do watch the preseason and you come off as smug. You are probably being downvoted by men and women who have watched preseason. Educated opinions do not really work on reddit. I've learned to stop commenting on things involving my field of work because some snarky teenager who has no clue what they're talking about is going to be upvoted from the hivemind who also does not have any clue what they're talking about.
"Nobody watches the preseason" is a completely meaningless comment. How were people supposed to suppose that its coming from someone who's allegedly informed? People who say they're going to boycott are often individuals who never had any motive to purchase in the first place. Yep. Additionally, most of the time individuals who are up to date with the newest gaming controversies aren't exactly sports lovers, which is the largest playerbase of sport matches. I think a good deal of people forget about this. For a lot of buy Madden 21 coins madden 2k etc. buyers that is gont be 1 of maybe 4 of 5 games they buy that year they don't care for any controversy. Hell as a huge basketball and video game fan I understand 2k is fucking me but I really like basketball and play with 2k religiously and with friends why would I not buy it lol.
